A glass of water natural indigestion remedies

More research has led me to a couple more easy natural indigestion remedies that we can try out. I am finding it really interesting there are some really easy things you can do to help relieve indigestion symptoms yet many people will continue for years suffering, not realising that they can do something about it! Indigestion has actually been around for hundreds of years and so have some of the most natural cures. However, the study of these natural treatments has only been around for the last few decades.

So here are some more simple and effective indigestion remedies that could work as a natural cure:

Regularly eating honey is thought to help cure indigestion. This is because honey is a natural treatment that heals body tissue. Honey helps heal the sphincter which in some cases is a cause of indigestion. The sphincter is a ring of muscle tissue that is situated between your stomach and oesophagus and it works by opening and closing to allow food to enter the stomach. If it is weak it loses its ability to stay shut thus allowing stomach acid to flow back up the oesophagus causing indigestion symptoms. The sphincter can be strengthened by eating 3 teaspoons of honey every day. We will definitely be trying out this very simple and natural indigestion cure and we will be having honey on our toast in the mornings!

Eating an apple is also thought to be beneficial in curing indigestion. Although this does not work for everyone it has been helping my Grandad's indigestion for many years now. Whenever he feels an indigestion symptoms coming on, he eats a red apple and it helps him enormously.

Drinking water after every meal can help. This is because water helps to flush the stomach cavity and create a seal for the sphincter. You should be drinking at least 7-8 glasses of water every day.

Another natural remedy is tea. Acid reflux is mainly a disease that affects the western world and it is widely believed that easterners do not suffer with it because they drink tea. One popular remedy for indigestion is green tea with ginseng, something easy for us to try!

Finally, as already mentioned, you should also try to change some bad habits that may contribute to your indigestion. These include avoid smoking, drinking carbonated drinks and alcohol to but we are working on these!

Healthy eating is the key to indigestion relief

I have been busy searching for an effective indigestion remedy for my husband who is relying heavily on indigestion medications at the moment. Sorting out his indigestion problem is crucial for him and for my sanity!

He is bloated a lot and he describes it as having a full stomach, he also gets a burning sensation in the middle of his belly, he gets nauseous and he burps a lot after eating and he is unable to control this. He also gets heartburn which he describes as a burning sensation in his chest.

So after doing some research I have discovered that we can make some basic lifestyle changes which will hopefully help both of us and particularly his indigestion symptoms. We are going to put them into practice together so I can encourage him as there are some big changes on the list!

  • We are going to eat more slowly at mealtimes. We are also going to eat more frequent and smaller meals instead of a large meal in the evening.
  • We are going to avoid acidic foods
  • We are going to drink a lot more water and eat more fire rich foods
  • We are going cut down on our alcohol consumption
  • We are going to stop smoking
  • We are going to get more rest - 7-8 hours sleep every night.
  • We are going exercise regularly

I am hoping that these lifestyle changes will not only help us to feel healthier and have more energy but will help to keep my husband’s indigestion symptoms at bay.

I should point out here that in most situations indigestion is a mild condition and will go away without treatment and that changes in lifestyle can be an effective treatment. However, if you find that you have lost your appetite because of a bloated stomach, are breathless, sweat more than usual, vomit or have black or bloody stools, then it is important to visit your GP to get checked out.

Wish us luck on these lifestyle changes, I will report back soon whether they are helping.

A natural indigestion cure

My wife is suffering from bad indigestion and her symptoms seem to be getting more regular. He often complains about feeling very full after eating even if when he’s only had a small meal. He says that the full feeling is often in her upper abdomen and he also gets a lot of gas causing him to belch a lot. He also sometimes gets nausea and heartburn symptoms too. All these symptoms cause him discomfort and of course if we are out in public, embarrassment. On a more positive note, her feelings of indigestion do not last long and are usually relieved by antacids.

I am concerned that her symptoms are becoming more regular and that he may not be looking after himself properly so I decided to investigate what might be causing her indigestion. I have discovered that in most cases, there isn’t a known medical reason for indigestion and that it is usually caused by acid reflux. Acid reflux occurs when excess acid from the stomach escapes and is forced back up into the oesophagus causing indigestion symptoms.

So, although there so often no underlying cause for indigestion, I decided to research what can cause it and interestingly I found that there are many things that can cause it. These include eating lots of fatty and spicy foods, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, stress and lack of physical exercise. Acid indigestion can also be triggered by eating citrus foods, chocolates, caffeine in drinks, carbonated drinks and drinking milk on an empty stomach. Eating too fast and eating too fast can also cause indigestion.

However, it is important to mention there are still people who suffer from indigestion that is unrelated to the any of these things mentioned. Ther type of indigestion is called non-ulcer indigestion or functional indigestion. It is a result of the stomach muscles not working properly during eating. When ther is the problem a doctor can prescribe medication to help stomach motility.

Based on ther research, I am now thinking that there are many things my wife can do to possibly minimise her indigestion symptoms and I will be raising these issues with him. Wish me luck!
